I must confess,Alice Walker is a seasoned poet. She has definitely seen it all and identifies with the struggles that makes up the past and is shaping the future as we know it. Her book uses simple language, yet very powerful.
The book The world will follow Joy, is one that would keep you reflecting on life’s happenings and the choices you make. It lets you fantasize how sweet what ifs could be but most importantly, helps you absorb reality and see the vanity of most struggles.
There is almost not a single poem not to like in the book,they all get you thinking, make you empathetic, you would even identify with some of the things that she has written. Life is even more meaningful reading poems like the ones in this book.
In summary, despite the captivity, the shame, the war, the struggle, the hustle, nature and even mortality, you get to realize that in the end, joy is the final notion.
