Abubakar Adam is a brave writer, for deciding to tackle a very problematic societal issue, or as it called, a ‘taboo subject’. Taboo subjects are prevalent issues in the society that we refuse to talk about. It happens, we accept that it happened and that is all that can be said or done about it. Questions like why do these people do what they do? What will make a person do a thing that is frowned upon by society?

Such issues are numerous and highlighting them is not the purpose of this review. But, Abubakar Adam in his book Season Of Crimson Blossoms, decides to do just that.

Abubakar Adam seemingly asks why a woman would decide to sleep with a younger man? What made her make such a decision in the first place? Why will she compromise her good standing with society, risk her reputation all for a man young enough to be her son? Is it, as is common in these ‘sugar mummies’ cases, for the money? Or is it something else?

On the part of the man, why would he sleep with a woman old enough to be his mother? It is obviously not for the money?

So, Abubakar Adam starts a very captivating story set to answer these questions or at the very best try to tackle this issue, we are taken on a journey that is compelling, engaging, and very controversial.

It’s a very good read that will probably leave one with more questions than answers. It also gives the satisfying feelings of a book well written and worth all the time, thoughts, and energy invested in it.
