Questions For Ada by Ijeoma Umebinyuo Book Review — Oyinlola Akiboye
Questions for Ada is a collection of poems written with the female gender in mind, hoping through it, share the experiences, emotions, and challenges she faces throughout her life.
Every woman who reads Questions for Ada will find herself in one or more pages of the book. The author writes in a way that you can relate with. She expresses experiences with words so much that you can almost feel it. She writes about various forms of emotions and situations. Her words sink so deep and they bring up familiar scenarios in your life. She writes about lost love, betrayal, sex, relationship with men, mothers and daughters, courage, wisdom, shocking surprises, communal love or hate, or ignorance as the case may be. I kept looking forward to the next poem. Anyone who loves poetry and women, and seeks to know more about what a woman goes through will have much to glean and love from this collection.
I can’t say much about the style and structure of the poems because this is my first poetry review, but I can boldly say that ‘the words carried weight’. I encourage anyone who is looking to fan their interest in poetry to start with this. I promise it will be worth your while.
