I Can’t Make This Up By Kevin Hart Book Review — Ganiyat Ogundele
Purpose cannot be overridden but could be achieved with talent, proper grooming and right mentorship. The determination to succeed carved the life of this young man, Kelvin Hart, born and raised in Philadelphia, United States, whom after graduating from High School, decided to forge a career in Stand–up Comedy.
This autobiography mirrors Kelvin’s childhood; being raised by a struggling single mother (whose fashion of parenting propelled him to break all odds), his ambition to rise to a managerial position in a shoe Company and his eventual rediscovery of self to pursue a career in entertainment under the watchful eyes of his mentor Keith Robinson, who assiduously brushed him up in readiness for the bigger stage of greatness In New York.
Kelvin Hart won hearts with his witty comics and not too difficult style of the Afro American language, which perhaps makes it more interesting to relate to many aspects of his life, thus, greatly influenced his craft. This book focuses on marriage, parenting, success, relationship etc. That keeps you on edge for more in a rather serious-hilarious mode. This book, unlike many other inspirational manuals, is insightful and comic, a reader’s delight any day. Without being an entertainer, Kelvin would still have been successful, as his zeal and passion to succeed shows how much of the many disappointments and failures he faced yet his ability to recover from all these cannot be over emphasized, most especially, his signature shoulder shrugging. Each chapter has life lessons learnt on his journey that one can relate with, the blueprint narrowed many of the thematic preoccupations that could be pulled from this book.
Kelvin talks about the power of addiction which nearly crushed him and his father, the power he claims is stronger than family, honor and morality. And in order to be successful, it is not a sole business but some communal efforts. This book is deep and insightful; it is a guide for young minds who aspire to be distinct and successful in their chosen fields.
