Akata Witch Book Review — By Blessing Fashola
In the book, Akata Witch, Nnedi attempts to bring to the simple human, the relationship between African and non African sorcery.
She portrays black magic as something beyond the blacks.
She speaks for her kind who have suffered and are still suffering abuse and rejection because of who they are.
In the book, I see a person who is not afraid to proclaim what she is and what she believes.
Nnedi wrote beautifully although sometimes I felt like she was beating around the bush. She possess a very good use of words that made somewhat boring chapters bearable.
I love the touch of romance between the four major characters in the book; Sunny, Orlu, Sasha, and Chichi.
However I got confused as to the location of Leopard Knocks. At the beginning, the book seemed to give it’s location at a place close to Owerri, in the East. Later on, Anatov’s response to Sunny’s question on why leopard knocks was not at Zuma seem to tell that it was at Lagos.
In all, Akata Witch was a good read.
